about

This one came along in a funny way. I made the chords and sound design for the second part of the song, but got frustrated with it after listening to it so much and not knowing where to go with the trumpet lead line. So I started noodling with the bass sound set on the midi and came up with the intro bass and then decided to shelf part two and start over with the same sounds. I recorded the bass over some new chords but let it run and laid down a rough version of the moving bassline in the second half as the track ran into the sections I'd moved over. And woah it sounded awesome! Then it was obvious I should keep both parts and make a sick build into part two which I think turned out quite well.

It was also this song that changed the direction of this project. This was the last song out of the five that I recorded, but it was by far my cleanest and boldest horn line yet. All the other horn parts I had on the rest of the project before this song were very quiet and background, mostly chords, and I think I had done that because I was scared to really let my trumpet playing be front and center. So this song inspired me to rerecord all the previous songs and write more harmonies to make this project what I knew it could be, but was too nervous to do at first. James Baxter cheered me up and showed me I could do it!
